Darby and I went to many Purebred Simmental Farms in the spring or 2007 and TESS Black Dream 600S or Silk Tassel, as he is known on the farm, was by far our favorite bull. We purchased him at the Ashworth and Guests Bull Sale from Tessier's where he was the high selling bull. Silk Tassel was moderate in frame, exceptionally wide, deep, had a low birth weight, and good calving ease EPD's. His mother is a small red cow with a nice tight udder. When Silk Tassel was weaned off his mother that fall he weighed 906 pounds and the cow weighed little more than 1000 Ibs. All that, and we've found out he is living up to his potential as his calves have averaged a gestation of 276 days. His calves have been small at birth but are already thick and wide topped. The picture below of Silk Tassel was taken after breeding season his first year walking our pastures. He was injured last fall and had to be put down therefore his 2008 calf crop will be the only one available.

When Darby and I went looking for another bull this fall, we were definitely looking for another homozygous polled black bull. We couldn't find one that we liked enough so we decided it would be better to buy a very good homozygous polled red bull than a so so black bull. "Fixation" is out of TCF/RCC Temptation GJ640, an AI sire that has worked very well in Canada and whose semen is very hard to come by here. Fixation's Dam is a beautiful red cow Kimlake purchased from Eddey Simmentals when they dispersed their purebred herd. Fixation is a well put together, extremely long, well muscled bull that we are very excited about.
